New Phone

I finally got the new Blackberry Pearl that I've been coveting. I'm so thrilled. Its an awesome phone. So many cool features that I never really even thought of having on my phone. Its crazy.

There have been a couple issues that have come with the new phone. It has been kind of nuts trying to learn how to use the thing. Its so complicated. I used to be able to text one-handed, without even looking. Now I'm hunched over, going at it with both hands, pecking at the unfamiliar keyboard. I'm getting lots of practice entering all the address book entries one by one.

I've also got myFaves now. So I get to pick 5 people to have free call minutes with. Trouble is, I rarely talk on the phone with anyone at any length with the exception being my mom. So now I have to decide who I want to be on myFaves.

I love it though. Once I've got everyone's information again and store it into my phone, I'll be set!

Childlike thoughts

When I was in my car today, that Gloria Estefan song came on, "Rhythm is gonna get you". I've known that song since I was way little because she is one of my mom's favorite singers. So I'm singing and dancing down the road when suddenly a childhood memory came to mind. That song use to scare me a little bit when I was younger.
Why, you ask?
Well, the song starts out with these lyrics:

"At night when you turn off all the lights
Theres no place that you can hide
Oh no, the rhythm is gonna getcha

In bed, throw the covers on your head
You pretend like you are dead
But I know it
The rhythm is gonna getcha"

I didn't really know what rhythm was, all I knew is that it was gonna get me and that terrified me.
I don't know how old I was when I finally realized what rhythm was, but I get it now and let me tell you, rhythm gets me all the time now.

Its funny though to think of all the things we misunderstood or that went right over our heads as innocent children. Just the other day, my sister was talking about how when she was a child, she thought a carpool was a car that had a pool in it. I'm not going to lie, I thought that as well. I know there are adult jokes slipped into pretty much every kids movie. I didn't get them back then, but I sure get them now.

Ah, the wisdom that years bring.

Overheard at Applebees...

So boyfriend and I are out to dinner tonight. I took up my favorite "in public" activity, people watching. One woman there was particularly fascinating to me. It may have been her melodramatic movements or maybe the fact that she was talking really loud, who knows? Anyhow, she started talking about downtown SLC, and this is where it gets good. She goes on to tell the man she is with how she really loves downtown and would love to live there, but that she is going to wait until we have a subway system there. Isn't that hysterical? I thought so.

Friday Blahs

Once again its Friday. I should be excited at the prospect of the weekend and being able to sleep in a little. I am excited about all that, but I've also got the blahs.

Its so cold in my office and even more cold outside. Its currently 21 degrees and its all overcast. Can we say "Ready for spring"?

My new work computer still hasn't shown up so I have to borrow someone else's computer every time I have work to do. The trouble is, business is slow and therefor so is the amount of work I have to. The break was nice at first, but now I'm just bored most of the day.

I basically want this work day to hurry up and be over already so my weekend can begin and my blahs go away. This weekend should be another good one. Jazz game tonight with the dad family and its Adam's birthday, he's 21 today. Traci and I are going to go hunting for a place to live tomorrow. I'm excited for that prospect. Sunday is a work meeting (early!) and later there is birthday stuff with the mom family.

So you can see why I'm ready for it to be 5pm!

Zoning out

Do you ever all of the sudden find yourself someplace and can't quite remember how you got there?

Well something like that kind of happened to me today. I was driving to work this morning and all of the sudden I was turning onto the last little stretch of my commute. The thing is, I couldn't recall the previous five minutes or so of the drive. Its absent from my memory. Its kind of scary when you think about it, driving while your brain is completely zoned out.

However, I am safe at work now, so nothing to worry about. Just something to think about.

Its Called a Car Seat. Get One.

Unrestrained baby in car

Pretty much nothing on the road gets me more pissed off than when I see children improperly restrained in vehicles or even worse, not restrained at all.

In the past week alone I've seen the following:

- a child placed behind the back seat, facing out the back window of a station wagon.
- a small child (about 3 years or so) sitting the the front seat, no car seat.
- a child crawling around the entire car, completely and entirely unrestrained at all whatsoever.

Are you f%&@$*# kidding me!?

In high school, I was riding around with a friend who made an improper lane change and got her tail light clipped by some guy in a rusty old truck. They pulled over to look at the damage and he came out of the truck yelling that he had his kid in the car and to be more careful, "Blah, blah, my child's safety, blah!" The thing was his kid was standing up on the seat of the truck. Again, no car seat, not even a measly seatbelt. Nothing. Don't talk to me about your kid's safety when you can't seem to be bothered to strap her in at all.

There are seatbelt laws for a reason people. Children are not old enough to make the decision of riding safe or not, you make that decision for them and it should never be an option. Ever. At all.

I may not have kids, but I can't see the hassle of strapping your kids in safely and properly ever not being worth the risk of what might happen if you don't take the time to do so.
